For Immediate Release
May 30, 2023
I represent Sri Ram Tumuluri, a lawful whistleblower who has bravely came forward to disclose illegal activity by current and/or former senior Maltese government officials and current and/or former officials with Steward Health Care.
I am writing to confirm that I, on behalf of my client, have filed disclosures with the United States Department of Justice and the United States Securities and Exchange Commission. These disclosures establish that Steward Health Care/Steward Health Care International, through its employees, affiliates, agents, partners and/or assignees (among others), have violated United States law, specifically the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, in their interaction with members of the Maltese government.
Mr. Tumuluri stands by his formal filings with the U.S. Government and looks forward to cooperating with law enforcement.
At this time, I must correct one piece of significant misreporting by numerous outlets in the Maltese press.
There are a number of articles that insinuate – if not outright state – that Mr. Joseph Muscat, while Prime Minister of Malta, had a questionable “association” with Vitals Global Healthcare (“VGH”). Furthermore, articles have stated that Mr. Muscat “was taking money directly from Vitals”.
This is false.
The Maltese press has recently erroneously conflated VGH with Steward Healthcare. VGH never gave Mr. Muscat any money. The payments in question have been previously reported to be associated with Steward Health Care and date from after its takeover of the Concession. Mr. Tumuluri has no knowledge of these nor, consequently, whether such allegations against Steward Health Care or Mr. Muscat are true. In any event, they do not concern him or VGH. We demand and expect that the Maltese press correct such misstatements immediately.
Andrew P. Bakaj, Esq.
Counsel for Mr. Tumuluri
